The regulation of metabolism is critical to all living organisms. Metabolism is controlled at the level of ecosystems, organisms, tissues, cells, organelles, and enzymes. BioElectron is focused on metabolic control at the molecular level through a process known as redox signaling. Redox signaling is a method of communication using electron-transfer chemical reactions between specialized enzymes called oxidoreductases. Very little is understood about these enzymes. There are >575 oxidoreductases encoded for by the human genome, but today over 450 have unknown function. We believe this knowledge gap has impeded understanding how metabolism is regulated at molecular level. We have discovered how a network of oxidoreductases communicates to control the oxidation, inflammation, and cell death response common to [many diseases of] aging. Our mission is to use our unique knowledge of electron-transfer biochemistry to quantify and solve problems of metabolic control.
